Lined by majestic, moss-draped live oaks and grand Victorian estates, it offers a peaceful retreat right in the town's center. During the cooler winter months, the bayou becomes a designated sanctuary for Florida manatees seeking warmer waters, allowing visitors to watch these gentle 'sea cows' glide peacefully near the surface. Every January, the bayou also comes alive for the famous Epiphany celebration, where local young men dive to retrieve a wooden cross in a tradition over a century old.
